How do I read the cashflow ladder?

In this brief video, we'll show you how to read and interpret the cashflow ladder on the Dashboard

The cashflow ladder looks at four time periods and shows what your net inflow or outflow is for that period, as well as a forecast of your balance. After that inflow or outflow occurs, the AUD amount for each period is summed up and you can see the individual payments by clicking on the group.

By following the cumulative forecast balance, you can see what amount you'll need to deposit into Paytron to prevent any of your payments failing. In our example account, we can see that the balance is in the green for the next week, but we're going to have to make a deposit in the next month.

These payments correspond with the steps down in the AUD balance graph you see at the bottom left of the dashboard. It's worth noting again that these graphics are only taking into account AUD cashflows, including foreign currency payments funded with AUD.

If you do a USD payment and fund it with USD, it will not show up in this cashflow ladder or your graph. However, a multicurrency version will be released in the future. Another point to consider is that payments via direct debit are excluded from the latter because they technically never impact your Paytron balance.

Another way you can view this data is as part of the payments workflow. Heading to the payments page, we can see the total AUD we have scheduled on the top left of the page. Clicking into this component, we can see a more detailed breakdown, including the AUD equivalent of all the foreign currency payments.

This view differs from the dashboard because it will include payments funded with foreign currency as indicated by the source currency column. For example, you see the first USD payment is funded by our USD global account. Another way to view your scheduled cashflows is by clicking into the in-flight tab.

From this view, you can click into the payment by clicking view, at which point you'll be presented with a payment summary. If you have appropriate access rights, you can also elect from here to pay the scheduled payment now or edit the payment details.
